I don’t get to write narrative-type stories often, due to the nature of my work at AP, but it’s a format I love. This is a story I worked on and off for about four months, driving more than three hours each way from Fresno to Greenfield for dozens of interviews and several photo shoots. It’s an in-depth glimpse into the identity crisis of one small California town, the clash among its established Latino residents and new migrants, and a new iteration of an immigration battle as old as the United States itself.
